Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player won his first championship for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-term coach his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's initial title since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from spring of the previous year.

Success also means the Russian has secured twenty-one titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my children together, so to get a championship is really nice," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.

The player's retrieving approach and recurring emotional displays on court had prompted observers to question if his skill to perform at the top level was over.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and play positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

He recovered from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his initial ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

He rescued four early opportunities in a competitive third set before the champion secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner secured the win with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
